Ex-Husband Died by Suicide after Shooting and Killing Ex-Wife in Downtown Goshen; Suspect Passed Away After Police Pursuit
Authorities have identified the woman killed in a shooting Monday afternoon in downtown Goshen as 50-year-old Lisa Adkins.
Police say officers were first called just before 5 p.m. to the area of Clinton and Third Street following reports of gunfire. When they arrived at the nearby intersection of Main and Clinton Streets, they found Adkins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the suspect fled the area before officers arrived, prompting an extensive search. The situation later escalated into a police pursuit that ended in Fulton County. Authorities confirmed that the suspect, 50-year-old Aaron Holiday of Elkhart, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the connection between the pursuit and Adkins’ killing. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has since taken over the investigation, which is being treated as a murder-suicide.
According to reports, Adkins and Holiday had previously been married but divorced in October of last year. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
The case has drawn further attention following statements shared on social media by a woman identifying herself as Holiday’s first wife. She described a history of alleged abuse and said she had attempted to warn others in the past. Her account has sparked broader conversations about domestic violence and the warning signs that can precede tragic outcomes.
Community members have expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of Adkins, remembering her as a life taken far too soon. Tributes continue to emerge as friends and loved ones mourn.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to piece together the events leading up to the deadly incident.
